Lyfe Jennings Net Worth: Lyfe Jennings is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, record producer and instrumentalist who has a net worth of $500 thousand. Born Chester Jermaine Jennings on June 3, 1973, in Toledo, Ohio, United States, he is not an ordinary R&B singer as he plays the guitar, bass, and piano integrating them all into his music. Jennings made his music beginnings as a singer in teenage vocal group called the Dotsons, along with his brother and two cousins. The band split in the early 1990s and any plans to take his musical career further were cut short after he was sentenced to 10 years in prison on an arson charge. But it was in Ohio’s prison, where Jennings began to turn his life around. There, he learned to play the guitar and penned his own songs, drawing inspiration from the neo-soul movement present in the late 90s. After he walked out of prison in December 2002, he immediately started to record and perform live. One of his performances include a notable stint on the Showtime In Harlem showcase at New York’s renowned Apollo theater. As for his four-song demo CD, it attracted the attention of several major labels, leading to a recording contract with Sony Urban Music. 2004 saw the release of his debut album Lyfe 268-192 (the number assigned to him in prison). After the slow-burning commercial success of the album, Jennings devoted himself to more hip-hop-oriented work, which resulted in the follow-up, The Phoenix in 2006, with Three 6 Mafia and Young Buck making guest appearances. His subsequent studio albums are Lyfe Change (2008) and I Still Believe (2010), the latter featuring guest spots from Bryan-Michael Cox, Warryn Campbell, Fabolous, Bobby Valentino, Ludacris, Anthony Hamilton and Jazmine Sullivan. Having undertook a longer life journey than most artists, Lyfe Jennings is not only prolific, but also a “socially minded R&B singer,” as New York Times once referred to him. Off stage, he has three children with his ex-manager Joy Bounds.
