According to XXL, Jay-Z the “perfectionist” didn’t like Alicia Keys’ original vocals on the Blueprint

3 track.

After sending the original vocals to Jay, Alicia Keys reveals that Mr. Carter wasn’t happy about the

sound and tone of her voice.

On a forthcoming episode of VH1’s Storytellers, Alicia attributed her vocal issues to being congested,

causing her to sound a little nasally.

Jay-Z eventually asked Alicia to re-record the vocals, and thankfully, he liked what he heard the second

time around.

Alicia Keys’ Storytellers episode is slated to air November 12 at 11 p.m. EST on VH1.
